Each century brings with it brand new uncertainties as much as the centuries before it, and also leads to the confusion of time and borders. In the twenty-first century, we live in, identities, borders, and even concepts are intertwined, and uncertainties increase, especially with the effect of technological transformations and globalization. While our awareness of different identities increases on the axis of the future of the world, sustainability, climate, and environmental issues, we are witnessing an increase in wars, the most brutal aspect of life. Amid these differences and uncertainties, the importance of sociology is gradually increasing. However, as the issues that sociology 'concerns' grows, its methodological and theoretical uncertainties also increase, and it becomes more difficult than ever to understand and explain the ever-changing and transforming world.

The “International Congress of Sociology”, which will be hosted by Başkent University Department of Sociology, sets out to discuss all these differences and uncertainties. BUSOC2023 will witness two important dates in this journey: the centennial of the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkey and the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Başkent University Department of Sociology. While designing BUSOC2023 to bring these two anniversaries together, we aim to both discuss the transformations in the 21st century and to shed light on the future while understanding the century that we have left behind in our Republic, and we invite all academics and researchers doing research in the relevant fields to submit their research to the “International Congress of Sociology”.

The themes that will be accepted within the scope of the Congress are listed below:

• Sociological Research: New Approaches, Research Designs, and Techniques
• Migration Studies
• Gender Studies
• Leisure, Sociology of Everyday Life
• Social Structure and Change: Past, Present, and Future of Institutions
• Population Studies

BUSOC2023 is not limited to these listed themes, it is open to suggestions for themes. Theme suggestions proposed by the participants should be sent to the e-mail address busoc@baskent.edu.tr with the information listed below:

• Theme title
• Short theme proposal (1-2 sentences)
• Name, surname, title, university/institution/institute information, and contact information of the person who proposes the theme.

The decision regarding the theme proposal will be taken after the evaluation by the Organization Committee and the owner of the proposal will be notified via e-mail and the decision will also be announced on the Congress website.

About the Congress

It’s possible to participate in the Congress with papers in Turkish and English. For each of the congress themes listed above, one or more sessions will be planned depending on the number of papers accepted to be presented. The review process for submitted papers has been planned not to exceed three weeks.

In addition to oral presentations, poster presentations will also be accepted.
